JOALI Maldives just celebrated the resort’s seventh anniversary, and the celebrations took over Muravandhoo Island in Raa Atoll. In only seven years, the resort has gone from a fresh newcomer to one of the most talked-about luxury spots in the Maldives. What makes it stand out is its mix of art and warm service, with an underlying philosophy named ‘Joy of Creative Living’, which is the idea that luxury should feel meaningful, inspiring, and alive.
The resort opened in 2018 with a simple idea: to share the Joy of Living. Over time, that vision grew into something deeper, turning JOALI into the Maldives’ first fully art- immersive island, turning the whole island into a living gallery. There are 73 villas, each designed with a blend of elegance, sustainability, and comfort. Even the smallest details, from carved wood panels to custom furniture and hand-picked artworks, are chosen to spark emotion. From the moment guests step onto the imaginative arrival jetty, it is clear that creativity is woven into everything on the island.
What truly pushed JOALI into the global spotlight is the way it treats people. The service is not stiff or overly formal. Instead, it feels warm, intuitive, and personal. Guests feel genuinely cared for, which is why so many return year after year. Because of this commitment, JOALI has earned some impressive awards, including multiple Forbes Five-Star Ratings, two years as the Indian Ocean’s No.1 Resort from Condé Nast Traveller readers, and a ranking as Asia’s No.1 and the world’s No.7 by Travel + Leisure in 2025.
Behind all of this success is a team that has stayed loyal since the beginning. Many of the original staff members are still part of the JOALI family, shaping the island’s atmosphere with their creativity and kindness. Guests often talk about how special it feels to be welcomed back by familiar faces. That sense of connection, not just the luxury, is a big part of why JOALI’s story continues to grow.
For the seventh anniversary, the resort hosted a full day of celebrations on November 15. One of the highlights was an elegant afternoon tea led by South African artist Peni Petersen. She created beautiful table designs and interactive art activities that fit perfectly with JOALI’s creative spirit. Later in the day, guests gathered for sunset cocktails, live music, and a beachfront dinner under the stars. It was not just a party. It felt more like a community coming together to celebrate something meaningful.
Villa rates at JOALI Maldives start from USD $ 2,072/- per night for two people sharing a Water Villa with Pool on a bed-and-breakfast basis. Guests can enjoy clear lagoons, colorful marine life, and white sandy beaches lined with palm trees. The island also features the JOALI BEING Cure wellness centre, an art studio and gallery, a kids club, a fitness centre, and a variety of excursions that give guests the chance to experience Maldivian culture and nature.
