Founded in 2017, under the parent company Atoll Vibes, LANALA Swimwear offers inclusive, eco-conscious swimwear inspired by the ocean blues, coral reef patterns, playful marine-inspired prints, and bold solids of the Maldives. The brand is named after the founders’ youngest daughter Lana and the Dhivehi word for “pretty,” Nala.

A Commitment to Sustainability
At the very core of every purchase from LANALA is its fabric. The brand exclusively uses REPREVE and CARVICO, materials created from discarded plastic bottles and waste. These fabrics are smooth, durable, and designed to resist sun damage and chlorine wear. Every piece carries UV50 protection, dries quickly, and is designed to last season after season.
By choosing REPREVE, LANALA Swimwear ensures that its production process aligns with the brand’s values of reducing environmental impact. With REPREVE, LANALA has reduced its resource consumption by 40% in comparison to virgin fabrics, a notable step in lessening its environmental footprint.
“When we began nearly a decade ago, our journey was marked by countless experiments with different fabric samples, rigorous wash tests, repeated sun exposure, and endless searching for the right fit. Only when we discovered REPREVE and CARVICO did we find materials that met our high standards,”
Most recently, LANALA has begun incorporating REPREVE’s Our Ocean line, crafted from plastics collected directly from the sea, reflecting their ongoing mission to give new life to discarded materials while keeping the oceans cleaner.
LANALA also takes extra care with its production and packaging:
- Seamless prints ensure nearly every inch of fabric is used, minimizing off-cuts and making each swimwear piece unique, as patterns are placed at random.
- Bulk production and storage reduce the frequency and volume of shipments, lowering the overall carbon footprint compared to frequent small-batch airfreight.
- Eco-friendly packaging includes reusable fabric pouches or recycled kraft paper sleeves and bags. Even the tags and labels are printed on recycled paper or directly onto the garments themselves, ensuring every detail reflects a dedication to minimizing environmental impact.
Inclusive by Design
LANALA Swimwear is for everyone. The brand features items for children, women, and men, ranging from bikinis to boardshorts to modest swimwear.
The women’s collection includes sizes from XXS all the way to 3XL, and the brand has expanded into beach accessories like body chains, hand fans, towels, and ponchos.
For children’s swimwear, LANALA recommends sizing up so each piece can be worn longer, reducing the need for frequent replacements. Collections are refreshed regularly: some classic designs and patterns stay available for several years, while others are offered only for a limited time, ensuring variety and keeping overproduction in check.
Even young Lana, now nine years old, is an integral part of the team, contributing her perspective to the children’s line and even designing several patterns herself ensuring that the kids’ swimwear is not only unique but truly attuned to what children love.
As the founders put it: “Whether you seek comfort, style, or sustainability, our pieces are thoughtfully designed to let everyone, regardless of age, size, or personal style, enjoy the beauty of the ocean with confidence and joy.”
In addition to this, many resorts and dive centers across the Maldives partner with LANALA for customized sustainable collections. Each bespoke order is produced alongside bulk collections to minimize environmental impact while delivering unique, resort-branded designs.
What Happens After Purchase?
Given the popularity of swimwear in tropical climates, LANALA also considers what happens once products are in the hands of customers. Families are encouraged to pass on children’s swimwear once it’s outgrown, giving each piece a second life and reducing waste. The brand is exploring creative solutions such as inviting customers to return their old pieces so they can be transformed into hair bands or scrunchies.
